On location shooting photo and video of a model wearing the clients jewelry.
In this lifestyle jewelry photography scene we matched the models outfit to the overall room tones. Outside to camera left we have a small window I used for key lighting and I added a diffused light source to increase its output. On the opposite side of the key is a 24" soft-box diffused hair light. Both lights have tungsten gels to match the rooms available light from the chandelier.
Lifestyle: Lifestyle photography is about capturing candid, unscripted moments that feel natural and relatable.
Photography & video
My clients often need both photography and video of the scenes so my gear needs to be able to handle both, quickly. I use Flashpoint XPLOR 600 PRO because they are battery powered, mobile and have a really powerful modeling light that I use as a video light.

In this lifestyle jewelry photography shoot, I captured a few elegant wide shots, then I came in tighter to make sure all of the jewelry the model is wearing gets captured up-close and in full detail.
When I shoot these short form video content scenes my approach is simple. Start with a wide establishing shot to set the scene so the viewer can see the entire composition and get a feel for the space. Then I come in tighter to get detailed shots of all of the jewelry pieces the model is wearing. I direct the model to move her hands in a way that allows me to follow her action with camera movements. This makes it much more interesting and realistic seeing how the goal is to depict the model in a lifestyle setting.
After we finished up taking the photos, we switched cameras and adjusted the lights for video all in about 5 minutes. I always encourage my clients to do both photo and video on sets. Double your content for only a small gear fee!
