At the start, everyone receives their own set of crayons to color, shade, and emphasize the seasons of their lives.

Shirley began her journey in Reno, Nevada, until the final month of her junior year. When she learned she was moving to Ely, Nevada, she felt it was the end of the life she knew. It was the era when The Beatles were making a significant impact, and everyone was excited about their arrival in America. So, when she mentioned moving to Ely, people naturally assumed she meant England. She simply let them imagine that scenario.

Her aptitude tests left the guidance counselors puzzled. While others were advised to pursue math, science, or other fields, she excelled in “Abstract Thinking,” and they didn’t know where to direct her. Thus, her crayons led her through beauty school and beyond!

With nearly 50 years as a hairdresser, it has been an incredible journey for her working behind the chair and collaborating with various venues such as the Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Opera, Film, and the New York City Rockettes.
