Episode 2 : How to use natural light
In this episode I teach you how to use different outdoor natural light set-ups like shooting in the shade, sunlight, high noon and magic hour. As a photographer, being able to see light is a crucial skillset to have when on location. Half of finding a good spot to shoot is not just a good background but good lighting. Fashion photography can be a rewarding genre if the skill set of lighting is mastered. Hard light gives different texture results to fabrics than soft light. Knowing when to use hard light vs. soft light is key.
SUNRISE
This section we discuss the importance of color temperature differences, light quality during sunrise, light quality in the shade and a quick tip on how to get a lens flare.
mid morning/ Direct sunlight
In this section we discuss how natural light looks around 9-11am, the difference between hard light and soft light, tele-photo composition and wide angle composition.
SUNLIGHT AS BACK LIGHT/SUNLIGHT AS CATCH LIGHT
This portion of the lesson discusses how to use the shade with the sunlight as a back light mixed with a hot spot on the concrete to create highlights in the models hair and eyes.
